George Mikes (pronounce it "mi-'quesh") was an Hungarian journalist with a great sense of humour. He used his irony to write about subjects like being old ("How to be seventy"), politics ("How to unite nations"), money ("How to be poor") or religion ("How to be God"). To understand some of his jokes could be necessary to know more about Anglo-saxon people but you can ask your English teacher for help with an explanation. It will be worth it!.
United Kingdom is the official name given to Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales as a whole. Its history as that begins in 1800 with the Union Bill, which joined Ireland to the former "United Kingdom". It has a great and interesting story. You can learn more about it in Wikipedia or by asking your English teacher. Again he/she will love to help you with that for sure!.
